Lapjacks give our notebooks that "one off" look

Not a day goes past where we don't have to duck and dive into highstreet corners, puddles or similar to get away from the woman who is wearing the exact same dress or jacket as us.

Now, don’t get us wrong, we are not being snobby – after all Topshop off the rail is hardly a metaphor for “one off creation,” but sometimes we don’t like to be seen next to the girl whose legs/arms/ chest looks better in the clothing we decided to wear for the day.

Toshiba_lapjack So imagine our glee when we heard about Toshiba’s new service that allows you to design an entirely original, customised cover for your notebook.

The Lapjacks service lets you choose from thousands of high quality images, upload your own digital photographs or even create an original design and submit it for production. The designs are then printed onto an adhesive vinyl cover, which like a pair of Levi’s for you legs, is made to fit the exact dimensions of your  notebook.

Prices start from £14.99 for pre-stocked imagery and £29.99 for customised designs – we just wish one off pieces of clothing were so cheap.

SoHo leather jacket will make your laptop look hunky

What do Tom Cruise in Top gun and Danny Zuko in Grease both have in common?

Yep that's right, they both look darn good in leather jackets.

Now, were not saying everyone can just swing a leather item on and look good, but  if you are a laptop the leather SOHO line available from iSkins, may just make you look that extra bit special.

Soho_2 Techbotiquettes, a word of warning - this jacket won't turn your lovable laptop into a leather clad hunk. However, it will protect it from the bumps and bruises of everyday life - as long as it isn’t bigger than 15” (Goodness even jackets want small people.)

The bruise control lies in the protection - the Soho range features a multi-layered design that consists of a durable outer layer, a reinforced padded centre and a plush inner lining – oh er missus.

All three features then work together, like a group of burly  bodyguards,  to encase the laptop and keep it safe from the dangers of everyday life. Hmm - perhaps Prince Will’s should replace his entourage with one of these now that he is newly single.

Be-ez’s LArobe Island sleeve – the tropical bikini for your MacBook

Oh we all like to be beside the seaside, yes we all like to be beside the sea, but unless you have a huge amount of air miles – or daddies credit card then most of the time this seems like a distant dream.

If like us this dream has seemed to rub off on your MacBook which has seemed a bit off colour and out of sorts recently (no we haven’t been dropping it) then Be-ez’s LArobe Island Collection, MacBookLaptop_covers_1 sleeves may just be what it needs.

The new sleeves are like a tropical bikini for your MacBook, and come in three island flower designs - Bali, Maui and Antigua.

Like most bikini they also protect its, um, sensitive bits. They are 5mm thick and come with low resilience Polyurethane (LRPu) Technology which gives the MacBook protection from bumps and scrapes.

However, we suggest you don’t let it venture into the water as it may  cause damage. Yes believe it or not - much worse than the damage done to our ego when our bikini goes see through.

Ego lifestyle Love edition - please be our Valentine

Dear Ego-Lifestyle “love edition” laptop will you be our Valentine?

We love the way you dress all in leather- despite it being pink and the way you wear your heart on your front. If you give it to us we will carry it in our hands and on our laps forever.

But Love edition that’s not the only reason why we want you to be our Valentine, it’s your added silver charm, 12”, uh widescreen and strong 80GB memory that makes you so special.

We also love the way you can capture our smiles with your photographic feature, the way you sing our favourite songs with your CD and DVD playback and the way you can keep on talking and working for up to 3.5 hours- something that’s hard to find in any man.

Ego_love_edition So Ego love, what do you think?

We promise to feed you and help you put on a bit of weight - because at 2.6 kilograms you will be lighter than us and that’s not allowed - keep the bow on your head nicely tied, even though it is a bit girly and we'll even take you anywhere we go.

What’s that? You will? Oh that’s made our day – but only if we pay the £3,349.00 retail price?

Um, do you have a less pricy brother we can contact?

The Asus S6F laptop - pink, pink and more pink

Whilst we are digging our holes on the subject of pink, we might as well tell you about ASUS’s new laptop, which - yes you guessed it - is pink.Asus_s6f_pink_1

However, in our defence every girls knows how important coordination is when it comes to accessories and the Bendi keyboard has to be paired up with something…

The S6F "Pink edition" descends from Asus's leather family - which is like the Hiltons of the human world. Like Paris it sports an ultra thin figure and weighs just 3.4Ib – although this might be more the weight of her dog than Paris herself.

However, this laptop is no airhead, not only does it have a 1.66GHz processor but also comes with 120GB of storage and a built-in Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR transmitter which is three times faster than standard Bluetooth connectivity. For those of us who don’t know about speeds, this is probably the speed at which Paris’s friends would run if we threatened to feed them a burger.

In addition, the laptop also boasts an 11.1” screen and a complete range of input/ output ports including 5 USB ports and S-video TV-out port and express card slots.

You already know about how we feel about clever, skinny and pretty things so we will not go down that road, but we do have a message to the guys reading over their other halves shoulders - the girl in the picture is NOT included when you buy the laptop. Sorry.

Sony builds laptop using Formula One parts

Tx3hp_front_right Sony has built itself a good reputation over the years for having well-designed products, and it has now turned to Formula One for inspiration.

It has developed its latest laptops using carbon fibre laminate, a material better known for its use in F1 cars.

This also should mean the notebook is tough enough to handle a few knocks.

Available from mid July, the slim Sony TX3, weighs only 1.25kg, yet Sony is claiming a massive seven hours battery life for the product.

The weight is all the more impressive when you consider that it has a good sized
11in LCD screen.

It comes with an inbuilt webcam and mic,  so you can see your mates when talking to then, and if you use a product like Skype, video calls over the Internet will be free.

And to help keep those secrets safe, it comes with a fingerprint scanner, making it easier to keep prying eyes and partners out.

Protect your laptop with style

Tac5502_1 If you're looking for a stylish yet practical case for your notebook, then why not check out the Tech Air Laptop Bags which, not only look stylish, but also offer you i-Trak technology, which registers your laptop on a worldwide tracking system which allows it to be recovered if you lose it or if it gets stolen.

Of course, if the laptop is taken out of the bag then it can't be traced, but this is a neat idea.

There are 21 styles to choose from, from £14.99.

The laptop that lets you sit and swivel

Dialogue is building on its range of innovative notebooks, producing what it is calling an ‘airline friendly’ laptop.

A full size ultraportable notebook when closed, the VFlybook_vm_2M’s screen is attached to an extendable column.

Once raised, the display’s hinge allows it to be swivelled. Dialogue says this makes it much easier to use when on the move, particularly when there is a train or airline seat immediately in front of it.

Weighing just 1.6kg, the VM comes with either 30GB or 60GB of hard disk, has a built in finger print scanner, optical drive and web cam.

There was no word on price or availability.

Macbook on test

Macbooks_2 As we reported last week, Apple's new Macbook has hit the streets, and we think they will become very popular.

Check out a full review to see how it measured up....

Apple release new MacBook

It was only a matter of time before Apple released an Intel version of the old iBook and here it is, the Macbook.

With prices starting at £749, this consumer notebook is a more affordable way to get your hands on one of these new Apple portables, with a lot of the same features as the professional MacBook Pro including the built-in iSight camera, iLife '06 with dinky remote control, MagSafe power connector and of course the Intel Core Duo Processor.
Macbook_black_1
It also comes in a choice of black or white and at 13in it should be very portable. We reckon this new range will appeal to students and is part of a push which sees Apple try to take some business away from Windows-based notebooks, especially with the release of Boot Camp, which allows XP to be run on a Mac.

We'll let you know just how good they are when we get our hands on a review model.
